Motor Energy Efficiency

by John Herbert | Director

Electricity is a vital part of modern society, yet it is a proverbial double edged sword, essential for work, but also a primary source of environmental pollution.

electrical motor efficiency, energy audits, energy management

Electrically driven motors consume 3/5th of the worlds electrical power, and offer ample opportunities for smart operations to conserve energy.

The capital cost of a motor is insignificant when compared to its OPex. The electricity consumed during its first year of operation exceeds its CAPex, therefore you pay for every inefficiency, no matter how small, year after year.

Now, consider how much money is lost everyday in your facility through in-efficient operation of electrical motors.

Kelcroft's design and energy management expertise helps organisations lower their expenditure which in turn boosts your bottom-line.

Adjustable Speed Drives

An Adjustable Speed Drive (ASD) is a device used to reduce or lower the speed of motors during part load conditions. One of the most popular methods is using a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD).

Even a small decreases in equipment rotating speed or fluid flow yields a significant reduction in energy use.  For example, reducing speed (flow) by 20% can reduce power requirements by approximately 50%. Therefore the benefit of lower power consumption are quickly translated into dollars saved.

In reality few operations actually require full speed operation all year round, therefore with Kelcroft's careful analysis, we can determine the annual cost savings for using VFD in your building or process.
